Entering the UK’s Out of Home Advertising Market

Outdoor Visual Communications LTD (OVC) began its operation in 2017, when our headquarters first opened in Manchester.

In early 2017 we acquired advertising rights to one of the most prestigious locations in Manchester: The O2 Victoria Warehouse Venue. This historical building that had carried the famous Trafford Mural for the last 50+ years was to be updated with the largest digital screen in Manchester and the second largest in Europe. Overlooking the prominent White City Circle roundabout,  the location is exposed to nearly half a million vehicles per week, additionally the site benefits from being only yards away from Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground where over 75,000 fans attend every home game.

We deemed it a perfect spot for DOOH, and in late 2017 we commenced the transformation of the site. A colossal and awe-inspiring LED screen was mounted upon the wall (measuring an impressive 307sqm), which has quickly become a recognisable landmark – we also ensured that we retained some nostalgia with the famous Trafford Mural still appearing every now and again on the screen.

Why Digital Out of Home (DOOH) Advertising?

OVC was founded on two primary objectives.

  1. The majority of prominent out of home advertising locations are monopolised by 3-4 large corporations and we felt there was an opportunity to be able secure great locations that could be utilised by smaller companies who previously didn’t have easy access to such premium locations.
  2. We see large scale digital sites as the way forward as this will deliver huge impact, brand fame and attract a greater level of interaction as a result of their sheer size, brightness and clarity of viewing aligned with the ability to target the right audience at the right time.

With our 2 key objectives in mind we set about a procurement process that would ensure that OVC could lead the market in Large Mega-sized locations. We needed to ensure that our screens were the brightest and sharpest in industry so as a result of thorough research and development protocol we were able to deliver a premium product that would stand out, both in size and quality.

It was essential that in a competitive market OVC would be a standard bearer for this level of quality and that we would be able to deliver to clients a display worthy of their brands.

It was important to us that we stayed true to our original objectives, to provide large scale brand fame for not only large blue-chip companies but also small, local businesses.

We have carried adverts for 15 different business sectors and over 100 brands. These brands range from Manchester based fashion brand Pretty Little Thing to Warner Brothers Pictures through to Bradford College and a local family furniture business, Sofas and Stuff.

Our future plan is to spread our wings and apply our DOOH strategy across other UK cities.

We are in negotiations with a number of parties about delivering Large scale Megasized screens that not only provide an incremental revenue stream for landlords but also deliver brands with huge unmissable impacts on state of the art super bright screens that truly engage the audience.
